Applying For a Puppy & the Selection Process

So you are thinking about adding a furbaby to your family and wondering how long our waitlist is and how the application process works?

There are many factors that we take into consideration when selecting families for our puppies. So in this blog, we will explain the process a little more.

As small family breeders, we have limited litters and cannot guarantee when the next one will be. We don't take deposits until we have a suitable puppy for your family and this is the reason why we don’t have an ‘official’ waitlist.

Because until we contact our database, we don’t know exactly how many families will still be looking or be ready at that time.

Application Process

Currently and in the past, we have our applications open year-round and receive multiple applications per week. So our database of applications is large. However, as we don’t take deposits the ‘waitlist’ isn’t official. And until we contact applicants when we have puppies arrive, we never know who will still be looking for a puppy. And if the timing is right for them.

So after we have a litter arrive, we contact past applicants via email and or text to check in to see who is interested in that litter. This happens in the first 2-3 weeks. We understand that many factors contribute to whether a family is ready such as holidays booked or work commitments etc. So the first thing we do is check who is interested and would like to be considered if a puppy is available.

That way, as we get to know our puppies, we can think about their personalities and what applicants may be best suited. Things like the ages of children in a family play a part in this.

At around 4 weeks of age we arrange meet and greets with potential families who we think may be suitable for one of our puppies. At this time, if all parties are happy, we take deposits to secure their puppy.

Can you choose colour etc?

Although we have many requests for certain colours etc, we never select puppies for families based solely on this. Yes, you can have a preference however, we think it is more important to match suitability over colour preferences as we want you and your family to be paired with the best companion.

This is one of the reasons we try to do weekly updates so you can get to know each of them a little before meeting them. At this point, we also start to get an idea of puppies coats. For those in need of non-shedding dogs, we recommend considering a purebred non-shedding dog as it's difficult to know for sure until around 9 months old when their adult coat comes in.

Future Litters

For future litters, we'll be starting a mailing list to keep potential families informed on any upcoming litters. Once our next litter is due, we will open up an expression of interest process and announce it through the mailing list and social media.

I hope this clarifies the process for you. Please be sure to review the "about us" and "what is included" pages before applying for a puppy.
